FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Beaver County Projects Receive $17.2M in State FundingPENNVEST provides grant, loans for water, sewer projects The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today (April 20) approved financing totaling $17,266,740 for three Beaver County water and sewer projects, according to Senator Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47). The Beaver Falls Municipal Authority received a $9,167,940 low-interest loan to construct a new raw water intake at its Eastvale water treatment plant and to replace waterlines at various locations. "This project is intended to replace portions of Beaver Falls’ water system that are old and deteriorated," Senator Vogel said. "The existing water intake dates back to the early 1900s and is in disrepair. These improvements should also correct problems with water flow and pressure that some residents have experienced. The Ambridge Borough Municipal Authority received a $5,657,800 grant to upgrade its sewer system, which tends to discharge untreated sewage into the Ohio River during wet weather events. "This grant will allow Ambridge Authority to correct sewage problems that resulted in it coming under the scrutiny of the Department of Environmental Protection," Senator Vogel said. "The overflow into the Ohio River not only poses a health risk, but could impact boating, fishing, and other recreational activities. We need to correct this situation as soon as possible." Baden Borough received a $2,441,000 low-interest loan for a waterline replacement project that includes plans to install 5,465 feet of 6-inch water line and 2,300 feet of 8-inch water line. "The existing water lines in the north end of the borough are old and in many cases undersized. They are subject to breaks and customers suffered through outages and drops in water pressure," Senator Vogel said. "The new water lines will address those problems and ensure residents have access to a safe and reliable water supply."
