Beaver County School Districts Receive Safe School Grants

Several Beaver County school districts in the 47th Senatorial District were selected to receive Safe School Initiative grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the training and compensation of school resource officers and to prevent and reduce violent incidents through programs and security equipment, according to Senator Elder Vogel.

The local funds are part of $6.5 million in competitive grants announced by the Department on Friday, November 17.

The districts receiving grants include: Beaver Area School District, $60,000, Blackhawk School District, $19,980, Central Valley School District, $60,000, and Midland Borough School District, $19,625.

The goals of these grants are:

  • Assist schools in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions
  • Promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning
  • Assist schools in procuring the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters safety and well-being of students and staff

“It is critical that the classrooms where our students and teachers spend the majority of their time are safe and secure so that they are able to focus on education,” Senator Vogel said. “I am thankful for the help these funds will provide to our local school districts.”
