Vogel Announces More Than $11 Million in State Grants for Beaver, Butler and Lawrence County Projects

HARRISBURG – Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) today announced more than $11 million in state grants have been awarded for 21 improvement projects in Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence counties.

“Investments in our roads, schools, sewers, and wastewater treatment centers is crucial when it comes to maintaining the safety and well-being of our communities,” said Vogel. “I am pleased to see so many of these critical projects receiving this much needed funding to accomplish this goal.”

The following projects are being funded with grants from the Local Share Account Program whose funding is derived from gaming revenues:

Beaver County

  • Aliquippa Municipal Water Authority received $500,000 to replace two clarifiers at the wastewater treatment plant located in Aliquippa City.
  • Baden Borough Municipal Authority received $257,250 to retrofit a bar screen at the wastewater treatment plant in Baden Borough.
  • Beaver County Corporation for Economic received $400,000 for the development of Lot 5 in the Westgate Business Park in Big Beaver Borough.
  • Brighton Township Municipal Authority received $250,000 for the replacement of a waterline along Tuscarawas Road in Brighton Township.
  • Center Township received $500,000 for the construction of a lodge located within a municipal park within the township.
  • Harmony Township received $750,000 for the neighborhood roads resurfacing project located with the township.
  • Hopewell Township received $423,382 for land acquisition and demolition of three parcels located within the township.
  • Industry Borough Municipal Authority received $300,000 for improvements to its water treatment plant located in Industry Borough.
  • New Sewickley Township Municipal Authority received $250,000 for a waterline extension along Big Knob Road located in New Sewickley Township.
  • Rochester Borough Sewer and Maintenance Authority received $300,000 for sanitary sewer improvements located in Rochester Township.
  • Vanport Township received $845,450 for stormwater management improvements along North Walnut Lane, Georgetown Lane, and Division Lane located within the township.

Butler County

  • Evans City Borough received $600,000 for a stormwater management project located within the borough.
  • Jackson Township received $472,095 for wetland and natural recreation enhancements located within the township.
  • Mars Borough received $500,000 to replace a waterline within the borough.
  • Zelienople Borough received $600,000 for Main Street Parklet project located within the borough.

Lawrence County

  • Wampum Borough received $400,000 for lead waterline replacement located within the borough.

The following Beaver County school district projects are being funded through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program:

  • Aliquippa School District received $1 million for a roof repair project at Aliquippa Junior/Senior High School located in Aliquippa City.
  • Hopewell Area School District received $1.15 million for a roof replacement project at the Hopewell Area Senior High School located in Hopewell Township.
  • Riverside Beaver County School District received $350,000 for a roof repair, HVAC, and plumbing system project at the Riverside Beaver County Elementary/Middle School facility located in North Sewickley Township.
  • Rochester Area School District received $713,777 for HVAC and roof replacement projects at the K-12 facility located in Rochester Township.
  • South Side Area School District received $500,000 for roof replacement; HVAC, boilers, and plumbing upgrades; accessibility improvements; energy savings; and health/safety upgrades at South Side Area Middle/High School located in Greene Township.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
