HARRISBURG – Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) today announced the approval of three state grants to improve agricultural innovation in Beaver County.
Vogel said the following Agriculture Innovation Grants are being awarded by the state Department of Agriculture:
- Lake Forest Gardens of Fombell will receive $24,600 for automating tree-grading and sizing.
- Tiny Seed Farm of Rochester will receive $75,000 for the development of an integrated, sustainable farm-to-sale innovation plan.
- Sturges Orchard of Fombell will receive $18,775 to install pasteurizer and filter systems for improved cider production quality.
“It was very important to fund these grants in the state budget, because Pennsylvania farmers must have access to innovation to compete,” said Vogel. “By helping our farmers implement the latest technology we can ensure they remain the best in the world.”
Agricultural Innovation Grants help farmers and other agriculture businesses implement new agricultural technologies, conservation and renewable energy innovations designed to expand their potential to generate profits, enrich soil and water resources, and produce energy on the farm.
Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry is made up of more than 53,000 farms supporting more than 600,000 jobs and contributing $132 billion to the state economy.
