Vogel Announces State Grant for Traffic Signal Upgrades in Center Township

HARRISBURG – Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) today announced the approval of a $563,970 state grant for safety upgrades at a problem intersection in Center Township, Butler County.

The grant will allow the township to fully replace the traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Route 8 and Beech Road to meet modern day operational and safety standards.

“When it comes to traffic, motorists want to keep it moving and keep it safe,” Vogel said. “This grant will allow Center Township to upgrade a key intersection by improving traffic signal operation and safety features.”

The grant was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) program.

The ARLE program aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue. Municipalities submitted 24 applications, totaling $33.5 million in requests. Projects were selected based on criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and local and regional impact.
