HARRISBURG – Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) announces the Aliquippa Industrial Park Revitalization Project has received over $1.4 million in funding from the Rail Freight Assistance and Rail Transportation programs.
“I am glad to see the Aliquippa Industrial Park project will benefit from these vital state funds which moves this project one step closer to completion,” said Vogel. “The positive impacts from these rail improvements include an extension of track component life, competitive rail freight services, and improvements in safety and reliability. It would also allow for an expansion of 2,000 to 3,000 new carloads by 2026 and an additional 1,000 carloads by 2028.”
The project, led by the Aliquippa and Ohio River Railroad Company, aims to replace ties and surfacing approximately 11 miles of track.
The State Transportation Commission approved a total of $42 million in state funding for 25 projects across the commonwealth. These grant programs are responsible for investing in rail infrastructure rehabilitation.
