State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. announced today that an amendment introduced by Senator John Wozniak (D-Johnstown) to Senate Bill 800 allowing the Harness Racing Commission to issue another harness racing license was defeated on the Senate Floor. Senator Vogel lead the opposition to a new proposed racetrack and casino, arguing that the amendment would cause further delays to property tax reductions and family sustaining jobs in Pennsylvania.
“While I understand and share the frustration associated with the speed at which Lawrence County racetrack has progressed, the truth is that much of the support work for the project has already been completed. Initiating another racetrack at this time would further delay the project in Lawrence County,” Vogel said. “I remain strong in my commitment to seeing this project through.”
